Winning artists announced
19 April 2023
The European Patent Office (EPO) is delighted to announce the artists who will transform the EPO's old paper patent application files into two exciting new artworks inspired by sustainable innovation. Following the deliberations of juries in Munich and The Hague, the artworks by the winning artists will be unveiled later this year at EPO premises in each city:
The Hague: Gil Delindro
The EPO staff and external art experts on each jury evaluated a shortlist of 16 proposals selected from the 276 submissions received in response to the EPO's call for artists last September. The competition on the theme of paper transformation was inspired both by the EPO's commitment to sustainability, and its drive towards digital transformation with a view to fostering and protecting innovation for generations to come. Details of the jury members and the selection process are available on the EPO website.
The successful artists now have until September to complete their artworks, which will be unveiled in October as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the signing of the European Patent Convention. The artworks will become part of the EPO art collection, which comprises around 1 000 works by artists from almost all 39 EPO member states.
