H.E. Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Ambassador of the Principality of Monaco to the Federal Republic of Germany, and President Benoît Battistelli of the EPO

The Ambassador of the Principality of Monaco to the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, paid an official visit to the EPO on 25 April for the formal hand-over of the instruments of ratification by Monaco of the Bilateral Working Agreement on Searches. Under the agreement, which was signed by EPO President Benoît Battistelli and the Minister of Finance and Economy of the Principality, Jean Castellini, on 24 November 2016, the EPO will carry out searches for national patent applications on behalf of the Monegasque IP office, providing applicants of national patents with a search report and written opinion about the patentability of their invention within nine months from filing the patent application.

The EPO President expressed his recognition to the Ambassador for Monaco's commitment to the European patent system, and for the readiness of the Principality to support its development through legislative reform.

"The visit today by Ambassador Isabelle Berro-Amadeï demonstrates Monaco's resolve to promote the European patent system. The Bilateral Working Agreement on Searches is now set to strengthen the use of IP for the benefit of the European economy," President Battistelli said.

Ambassador Berro-Amadeï confirmed the Monegasque commitment to strong IP rights protection and efficient procedures.  She said: "The ratification of this Agreement underlines the willingness of Government of the Principality to support enterprises with a policy of growth and innovation, and with the help of modern legal and technical instruments to strengthen the role of patents and the attractiveness of Monaco".

The EPO and Monaco have intensified their co-operation in recent years, signing a bilateral co-operation plan in November 2015. Monaco has been a member state of the European Patent Organisation since December 1991. This Agreement further strengthens the close ties between the EPO and Monaco.
